UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
Collects and maintains Gaza-specific and refugee disaggregated socioeconomic datasets including monthly, quarterly and annual statistics on demographics, labor force, national accounts and prices produced by Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) as well as data generated internally by UNRWA (registration, poverty). Formats data and generates frequent reassessments of changes in refugees’ living.
Represents UNRWA and follows up on all socioeconomic surveys implemented in the Gaza Strip, including the Socioeconomic and Food Security Survey, the Household Expenditure and Consumption Survey, and the Household Economy Approach; serves as the field’s focal person for the provision of up-to-date and accurate macro socioeconomic indicators;
Provides socio-economic analysis to Programmes in the development of GFO planning and reporting processes (Emergency Appeal, Strategic Plan, Annual Results Review) by assisting in the preparation and verifying the consistency and quality of data;
Provides technical support to Programmes and the M&E team in developing evidence-based monitoring tools for interventions aimed at alleviating poverty (food and cash assistance, job creation, microfinance, education, health and housing);
Builds professional relationships with a network of experts from other governmental, non-governmental and international organizations (including Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, Midwest Organic Services Association, World Food Programme and food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations);
Compiles and analyzes socio-economic data for periodic reporting, advocacy and exchange as requested by senior management and other partners; supports the development of statistical summaries, concept notes, short graphical presentations on socio-economic issues related to UNRWA operations;
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
A university degree in political science, statistics, management, economics, international development, or any other relevant social science field subject;
At least four years of experience in a national, international or governmental organization focusing on poverty analysis and economics analysis, poverty measurements methodologies, statistics and other socioeconomic measurement tools and ability to compile, validate and analyze statistics, as well as presenting findings in a user-friendly manner; knowledge and experience in the use of econometric tools and social sciences statistical applications (SPSS, STATA, SAS)
Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic;

The incumbent may be:
Required to travel within and outside the Field in the Agency’s Area of Operations for duty purposes;
Required to work beyond regular working hours.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $1,391.40; and monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25.
Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.
Employment for this post might be either on full-time or part-time basis based on the needs.
Announcing this modality does not mean that it would definitely be used. It would rather give the
Agency the flexibility to use both full time and part time contracts based on the work needs and the
personal circumstances or preferences of the staff member.
Leave: 30 days annual leave

EQUIVALENCY
When the minimum requirements are not fully met, the Director of Human Resources; in consultation with the Director of UNRWA Operations, Gaza may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.
NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.
